Learning System High School Reviewer's Comments

This Learning System collection consists of two DVD–ROMs and the box set we reviewed also came with a Spanish/English dictionary on CD.

In terms of mathematics it covers topics ranging from Pre–Algebra through Calculus. The Algebra content is exactly the same as what is offered in the Learning System Math and Computer Skills collection. However, we placed this set higher in the review because it also offers instruction in science, history and literature.

Teaching Tools:  

The Algebra portion of this program primarily consists of instruction offered through text, graphics and audio. It also includes a few quizzes and exams and once you reach a certain level you can play some simple games.

Homework Help:  

This program is not the best homework assistant. You cannot promptly find step–by–step solutions to sample problems. When we tried to use this program to help us solve our sample problem, we could not easily find the assistance we needed to figure out how to solve the equation. It also does not have an advanced calculator or worksheet that solves unique problems or creates graphs.

Topics Covered:  

This DVD collection includes instruction in Pre–Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry and Calculus. In terms of Algebra, all major topics are covered.

Up-to-Datedness:  

Although this program is not as out–of–date as some educational programs, it cannot compare to Microsoft Student, which updates constantly and provides pertinent and up–to–date online content.

Ease of Use/Support:  

This program is easy to use. However, the only contact method we could find was an email address, should you need support it may be hard to obtain.

Summary:  

Although this program provides a wealth of information, it is hard to find quick information for specific homework help. However, since this program a narrator it may be a good supplement to traditional instruction for those that have a hard time reading text.
